Tioga County Quality of Life
Tioga County provides a sense of community and feeling of safety throughout our ten boroughs and 29 townships. Nestled in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania’s Northern Tier, it is a wonderful place to live, to vacation or to just pass through. The rural county exudes a feeling of peace, rest and relaxation. For the outdoorsman, we have three State Parks (Colton Point, Hills Creek and Leonard-Harrison), two Federal Parks (Cowanesque and Tioga-Hammond) and seven lakes (Beechwood Lake, Cowanesque Lake, Hamilton Lake, Hammond Lake, Hills Creek Lake, Lake Nessmuk, and Tioga Lake). These areas, along with the picturesque Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, offer miles of trails for hiking, biking, boating, rafting, canoeing and horseback riding throughout the county.
Tioga County also hosts many festivals throughout the year. Each June, the Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival is held in downtown Wellsboro, the county seat. In other boroughs around the county we have 1890’s Weekend, Blossburg Coal Festival, Liberty Blockhouse Festival and Dickens of a Christmas.
These festivals are all seasonal events, but we do offer some year round entertainment. The local community theater, Hamilton-Gibson Productions, is always busy with new shows and the Gmeiner Art & Cultural Center is open daily, along with the Tioga County Historical Society and Coates Heritage House Museum.
Whether you are coming to visit, or to stay for a while, we hope you find Tioga County . . . a place to call home.
